&pageText=The serial and march unit commanders are responsible for the completion of the pre-departure steps prior to the convoy’s movement.& &popText1=The march unit and serial commanders are responsible for the line-up of the convoy vehicles prior to departure.& &popText2=The convoy movement order will specify the vehicles markings which will include the Convoy Control Number that identifies the convoy during its entire movement. Flags to identify the convoy commander, the lead vehicle and the last vehicle may also be listed.& &popText3=The pacesetter maintains or adjusts the rate of march as necessary to meet the schedule.& &popText4=The march unit and serial commanders must conduct a weapons check to ensure that all weapons are operational prior to the convoy’s departure from the assembly area.& &popText5=Ensure that the vehicles are hardened by installing at least a double interlocking layer of sandbags to cover the cargo bed of troop-carrying vehicles. Cover the cab floor of all vehicles with a double layer of sandbags to include under the driver’s seat if possible.& &popText6=Ensure all loads are inspected and properly secured on each vehicle. Loads may be covered with tarpaulins to provide protection from weather and deny possible intelligence information.& &popText7=Convoy personnel are usually briefed after the vehicles are lined up. After the convoy commander’s briefing, personnel are returned to the control of the serial and march unit commanders who give final instructions.& &popText8=The serial and march unit commanders make final preparations for the movement, give the hand and arm signal to start engines, and ensure vehicles are ready to move.& &popText9=After receiving the order to move out, the serial and march unit commanders give the arm and hand signal to move out and then must control their elements so that each element will cross the start point at the proper time.&
